Neos Networks extend reach of UK’s leading research and education network across southern England

  • Neos Networks

Neos Networks extend reach of UK’s leading research and education network across Southern England.

London, 14 January: Neos Networks, the UK’s leading provider of network infrastructure and data centre services, and part of the SSE Group, have announced that it has extended its relationship with Janet, the UK’s research and education network and part of the Jisc group. In a five year contract, with the option to extend for a further five years, Janet will broaden Neos Networks’ existing deal to deliver network services that replace Janet’s South regional network. This network connects universities, colleges and other education institutions in the South to Janet’s core national network.

With the demand for bandwidth in higher and further education institutions rising, Janet sought a network infrastructure upgrade that would initially provide 10Gb wavelengths based on a new fibre ring architected to the same standards as the recently launched Janet6 backbone, providing a highly scalable and flexible network service. The Neos Networks upgrade will provide a dark fibre core network using 280km of underground fibre routes, allowing Janet to deliver high bandwidth network services to a further 70 higher and further education institutions. Key to Janet’s decision was the fact that Neos Networks was able to deliver in a flexible manner. Institutions will initially enjoy a ten-fold increase in network capacity with the option to upgrade to higher bandwidth in future.

Janet’s 18 million end-users across schools, further education, higher education and research facilities already benefit from Neos Networks’ network services, which employ more than 6,500km of dedicated fibre, creating one of the UK’s largest private networks. This connects nearly a thousand facilities and institutions into 30 core sites, located across the UK & Ireland. This powerful network enabled by the new Neos Networks’ fibre network is key to enabling Janet to meet the demands of modern academic institutions, supporting academic collaboration, distance learning, remote working and the general internationalisation of education and research.

“The extension of our relationship with Neos Networks will enable us to deliver world-class service for UK academic institutions,” said Jeremy Sharp, head of strategic technologies at Janet. “Flexibility was a pre-requisite to our initial deployment, as we needed to ensure that we could deliver increased capacity and speed to additional sites, in line with the growth of our regional networks. With Neos Networks’ impressive fibre network in place, we are confident that we can push the boundaries of education even further, by extending our geographical reach and providing unbeatable bandwidth, with virtually limitless scope for collaboration and technical innovation.”

“We are delighted to extend our work with Janet to support the UK’s research and education community with even greater connectivity throughout Southern England,” said Chris Jagusz, Managing Director of Neos Networks. “With our network in place, more than 18 million staff and students already benefit from greater connectivity, and our new contract will deliver a minimum ten-fold increase in capacity for those who need it most. We are very proud to be supporting innovation within multiple higher and further education institutions in this way.”

Neos Networks helps Scotia Gas Networks keep its 5.8m customers cooking with gas

  • Neos Networks

Neos Networks will now deliver extended WAN & LAN services to connect SGN’s core gas control sites.

London, 2 September 2014: Neos Networks, the UK’s leading provider of network infrastructure and data centre services, and part of the SSE Group, has today announced that it has extended its existing relationship with Scotia Gas Networks (SGN), in a new deal to connect its main gas control sites, from which it monitors and controls the flow of gas across Scotland and Southern England.

Having supported SGN’s gas network since 2006, this new contract will see Neos Networks deliver extended WAN and LAN services to link its core sites in Horley and Horsham. Neos Networks’ Ethernet services also now connect 40 SGN depots and its layer three packet network is linking 62 hilltop and offtake sites. As part of this latest project, Neos Networks also delivers telemetry services, which enable SGN to manage, communicate and transfer critical and regulatory information between these locations, and will also provide and manage its critical telephony connectivity services.

Neos Networks was awarded this latest contract following a competitive tender. Key to SGN’s decision this time around – in addition to the guaranteed availability of the network – was the bespoke service wrap and the highly qualified, attentive team, which was completely informed on its evolving business needs. For example, billing accuracy and predictability was extremely important for SGN, and Neos Networks’ team continues to offer this granularity on a quarterly basis.

“Due to the nature of the mission critical services we deliver to customers 24/7, working with a trusted provider, that wouldn’t let us down when it came to availability, really was our top priority,” said Andrew Quail, director of IT at SGN. “Neos Networks’ continued efforts to meet this expectation throughout our time working together made it a clear choice for our latest network requirement and the dedicated telecoms team didn’t let us down. Neos Networks offers a level of flexibility and availability that goes above and beyond the confines of our contractual agreement, it takes our changing business needs in its stride, delivering an impressive service that extends to both the network and the people involved. We look forward to continuing the relationship in the future.”

Flexibility of telecoms services was also particularly important to SGN, as it needed to be able to rapidly scale up network capacity at times of peak demand, while ensuring that its 5.8 million customers are connected at all times and without fail.

“Our heritage as a trusted network provider and extensive experience in delivering mission critical services to energy companies – including to our parent company, SSE – was crucial to SGN when we began working together in 2006,” said Colin Sempill, managing director at Neos Networks. “Indeed, our reputation gave SGN the peace of mind that we have an in-depth understanding of the industry and are able to meet its changing requirements. We are delighted to have extended our relationship with SGN and are proud to report that we now deliver the majority of the company’s WAN and LAN requirements.”

About SGN

Scotia Gas Networks (SGN) provides a safe and secure supply of natural gas to 5.8 million customers. SGN is the UK’s second largest gas distribution company, operating over 74,000 km of gas mains and services throughout Scotland as Scotland Gas Networks, and in the south of England as Southern Gas Networks.

Neos Networks offers a level of flexibility and availability that goes above and beyond the confines of our contractual agreement, it takes our changing business needs in its stride, delivering an impressive service that extends to both the network and the people involved.

Neos Networks delivers for HighNet

  • Neos Networks

Neos Networks has partnered with HighNet, Scotland’s leading telecoms service provider, to extend their network UK-wide in the next phase of their growth plan.

HighNet launched their own Internet Service Provider (ISP) network in early 2012 and needed a partner able to deliver a scalable UK-wide solution with a geographical footprint most beneficial to their clients. The solution had to fulfill  HighNet’s rapid growth plans to deliver their extensive services over a secure high capacity network.

Neos Networks’ solution consists of a virtual private network that connects seven essential locations: Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Strathclyde, West of Scotland, Manchester and London. Certain sites also provide co-location services for storage, replication and business applications. This platform enables HighNet to deliver extended voice, data and mobile services to existing clients with a multi-site UK presence.

The considerable investment in the network will be worthwhile, as Dave Siegel, Managing Director of HighNet, explained: “businesses need high-quality bandwidth with genuine reliability to enable them to grow in this digital age. By building our own ISP network including SSE’s data centre capability across the country, we’ve laid the foundations from which we can deliver the connectivity and infrastructure that our partners and end-user customers need.”

Commenting on the partnership, Chris Jagusz, Managing Director of Neos Networks, said: “HighNet’s extended footprint opens up a whole new range of services for existing customers as well as a platform for new business. We are pleased to be working alongside HighNet to deliver the next phase of their growth plans now and over the coming years.”

About HighNet

Founded in 1994 by Flora Siegel, Highland Network Ltd was set up to offer innovative and ground-breaking least cost telephone call routing services in the Highlands of Scotland. The success of the penetration into the Highlands led to them expanding territory firstly into Grampian region and following quickly on with the whole of Scotland. To reflect this growth, they rebranded as HighNet in 2000, and after purchasing of their own billing platform in 2001, they have grown to become Scotland’s leading business telecommunications provider, offering a wide range of voice, data and mobile solutions. They now provide access to a full product range from the UK’s largest telecoms suppliers, ensuring quality and value for money for businesses throughout the UK and abroad. Their services are sold through 90+ channel partners throughout the country. Their vast depth of experience, a product range and skill set ensures that HighNet provides a service that is second to none.

By building our own ISP network including SSE Group’s data centre capability across the country, we’ve laid the foundations from which we can deliver the connectivity and infrastructure that our partners and end-user customers need.

Neos Networks API-enables its pricing tool

  • Neos Networks

Neos Networks has developed its pricing tool enabling an API functionality for customers to generate their own price quotations.

The API (Application Programming Interface) now enables customers to link their pricing tools to Neos Networks’ UK-wide Ethernet pricing. Customers can generate quotes online and in real-time through their own pricing tools rather than by email or through a portal. The tool can generate point-to-point or point to-multipoint Ethernet quotes UK-wide, with single and multi-quotes.

This development reduces time spent by resellers, managed service providers and system integrators looking to provide their end-client with the most competitive and beneficial deal available in the market.

Commenting on the pricing tool development, Chris Jagusz, Managing Director of Neos Networks, said: “The API is the first of a series of quarterly product launches and service enhancements that we have planned. In Q1 2013 we will be adding Internet Access pricing to the tool, one of the many new product lines we are introducing over the next three years. Using the tool gives customers more flexibility to receive quotes in real time.”
